A marker for Murray

The Scot is one of six players taking part in the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi at the start of a year that could well bring his first grand slam title.

Murray will line up alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the three-day exhibition tournament so there should be some great tennis on show.

Any time you get the best guys in the world together you can expect an impressive event, whether they are competing for ranking points or pre-tournament pride.

Each player in the field - including Nikolay Davydenko, Andy Roddick and James Blake - will want to win it and gain a psychological edge in the build up to the Australian Open.

The single-elimination tournament should give a good indication of where each guy is in terms of their off-season training. I don't expect anyone to play their best tennis this early in the year but it will be a good test for them to face each other.

The players won't have the luxury of playing two or three matches as they do in the Masters Cup so everything will be on the line from the start
