An inexperienced Huddersfield side failed to claim the Infirmary Cup as they were beaten 32-18 by Halifax at the Shay.

The Giants were in front 18-16 at the break but did not manage to score a single point in the second half against their Championship opponents.

With new coach Nathan Brown watching on from the stands, some of the Super League outfit's rising stars were given a chance to impress.

And despite the defeat there were some positives to come out of the game for Huddersfield, not least a try on debut from Greg McNally.

The 18-year-old scrum-half marked his first appearance since signing from Whitehaven with one of the visitors' three scores in the opening 40 minutes.
